Concision brings smart building technology to the education sector

Combining world class factories with precision digital technology and institutional knowledge, Concision assists partners to deliver a suite of specialist education solutions, including new schools, volumetric and mobile classrooms and sophisticated bathroom pods, ideal for student accommodation.

Concision has also developed ReadyRoof, a pre-fabricated timber panel, warm roof solution offering schools the ultimate in thermal and acoustic performance. ReadyRoof panels are produced at high speed and high volume – up to 24 panels a day – and installed just as rapidly – up to 40 panels or 1000m2 a day. With no need for a specialist installer and a straightforward installation process, projects using ReadyRoof are weathertight in days.

It’s this kind of innovation that has seen Concision become a leading partner for traditional builders of education-based projects.

Lemonwood Grove School in Canterbury in one shining example. Together, Southbase Construction and Concision designed, consented and completed Lemonwood Grove School in just 13 months. Significantly faster than the typical 18-24 month timeframe for a new school build.

The school is 2,800m2 and constructed entirely from Concision’s OSM panels, including 140 ReadyRoofpanels and 68 closed, warm wall panels. The project delivered on the Ministry of Education’s rigorous Design Quality Guidelines and set a new benchmark for innovative construction in New Zealand’s education sector.

Another successful Southbase Construction and Concision collaboration has seen Concision manufacture modular classrooms and learning spaces for Hobsonville Point Primary School in Auckland. All the panels for the one double and one quadruple classrooms and the six learning spaces were manufactured in Concision's Rolleston factory over 35 days before being transported to the company's Matamata factory for assembly and service installation, including heat pumps. From there the classroom buildings made their way to Hobsonville, ready to welcome children from 15 October. On site, the entire project was complete in 33 days. Southbase Construction and Concision are now working on a more fit for purpose and efficient modular solution, which will not only provide efficiencies in delivery, but provide the ability to stack 2-3 storey for use in both the residential and education sectors.

Meanwhile, Concision’s bathroom pods continue to grow in popularity. It’s not difficult to see why. Produced in days, and concurrently with the building project, Concision’s bathroom pods significantly speed up overall build times. Completed in factory, including tiles, flooring and fittings, they’re plastic wrapped, transported to site, placed into the building and connected to water and power. They are the ideal bathroom solution for student accommodation – and in fact any project featuring a repeated bathroom design.
