Gary Caulfied, CEO of XLam to speak at CoLab
PrefabNZ looks forward to welcoming Gary Caulfield, CEO of XLam NZ and Pty to CoLab 2017. Presenting: CLT - what the world is going crazy for right now
XLam is the first manufacturer of cross laminated timber in the Southern Hemisphere. XLam’s vision is to be the leading provider of sustainable solutions for commercial and residential construction throughout New Zealand, Australia and beyond, focusing on the use of branded CLT and derivative products.
At the time of first production in Nelson, 2012 (as now), acute housing shortages combined with the need for better building quality, faster construction, safer sites and more sustainable building solutions suggested the time was right for CLT down under. Since 2012 when production commenced, XLam has experienced rapid growth. Planning for a second factory in Australia factory is now in full train, with Australian production of XLam CLT expected to commence in mid 2017. Until then, Australian projects are being supplied from the NZ plant.
Gary will explain:
- XLam structural properties
- Production process
- Case studies, such as use in Bealey Lodge, Christchurch that has been nominated for a Timber Design Award.
- CLT application working at its best
