Builtin provide insurance and guarantees for builders and trade professionals nationwide, utilising a web-based self-service platform that enables clients to obtain instant quotes and arrange cover online. Builtin have long been an innovator in financial services for the construction sector, being the first insurer here to: introduce liability cover for damage caused by faulty work and extend it to the property being worked on; extend public liability insurance to damage caused as result of professional advice; offer simple payment protection to subcontractors in the event their head contractor goes bust; provide meaningful professional indemnity insurance for builders and introduce an independent 10 year builders guarantee backed by a licensed insurer.
Ben is a construction insurance specialist with an in-depth understanding of the risks faced by building industry professionals. This includes exposure to financial, liability and physical damage/loss risks associated with construction. Over the past 7 years Ben has presented at numerous construction industry events in relation to these risks, including to more than 8,000 builders in just the past 2 years, highlighting the pros and cons of the insurance cover available and helping builders understand the liability context they work within.
Prior to returning to New Zealand Ben lived in the United Kingdom for 10 years. There he worked with some of the world’s leading grocery brands, including Campbells Soup & Nestle, in a marketing, commercial account management and strategy development capacity, latterly leading the Category Management Group for Nestle’s UK fresh dairy joint venture.
Ben and his family live on a bush covered lifestyle block on the outskirts of Tauranga. He spends much of his free time trapping possums and other predators, with the aim of encouraging native bird populations to recover. Ben is also currently learning Te Reo Maori through Toi Ohomai, the Bay of Plenty’s Polytechnic.
