Abodo Delivers Pre-finished Timber Façade for Te Ara a Tāwhaki

Te Ara a Tāwhaki is a unique learning laboratory specifically for Māori. The building’s stunning timber façade uses Vulcan Screening, chosen for its exceptional performance. The criss-cross pattern was designed by PrefabNZ Member Tennent Brown to reflect traditional Māori flax weaving patterns, and required a timber that would be stable enough to cope with this demanding application. Maintenance was also a key consideration given the elevated nature of the structure on a commercial building. The stability and weathering characteristics of Abodo’s Vulcan Screening made it a natural choice for the project. Vulcan is sustainably sourced, thermally modified timber – a chemical-free, heat-based treatment which dramatically increases the durability and stability of the wood. All Vulcan timber was delivered to site factory finished in Sioo:x to provide long term protection with a low maintenance silvery-grey natural colour.
