Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology offers a range of vocational, hands-on courses. Construction students are trained by building houses and cabins on campus, after which they are transported to new locations. They are involved in the Charity House project where proceeds of the auctioned house are given to local charities through Rotary Sunrise. All buildings have a Wood First policy. Toi Ohomai is also home to the only educational sawmill in the Southern Hemisphere, with wood manufacturing, timber machining and saw doctoring qualifications.
Toi Ohomai is research active and is part of the National Science Challenge, building better towns and cities, partnering with Scion, Unitec and Tall Wood.
